Once your retirement is processed your first pension payment depends on various factors and can take 3-12 weeks following your retirement date. To minimize processing times, we recommend contacting PMRS six months before you plan to retire so that we can work with you to accurately calculate your benefits, ensure necessary paperwork is submitted correctly, and answer any questions.

Newly retired members will receive a form with their first check which can be completed and returned to PMRS to start direct deposit or you may contact us. Direct deposit can be started at any time by completing and sending the Direct Deposit of Annuity Payments (PMRB-28) to PMRS. Please note, it can take from one to three months for direct deposit to start.

Retirement benefits are paid at the end of the month. Mailed checks are sent on the last business day of the month. Direct deposit are made on the last business day of the month by 3:00 P.M.
